Guerlain, a long-established French perfume house, was founded in Paris in 1828 by Pierre François Pascal Guerlain. Guerlain started as a small shop, but thanks to Guerlain's innovative talent and keen sense of fragrance combinations, the company quickly grew in reputation. One of his greatest successes came in 1853 when he created the iconic 'Eau de Cologne impériale', a perfume specially designed for the French Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. This masterpiece earned Guerlain the title of official court supplier, further strengthening their position as one of France's most prestigious perfumers.
Over the years, Guerlain has continued to create fragrances that have become timeless classics. In 1912, “Heure Bleue” was introduced, a romantic and melancholic fragrance. In 1919, “Mitsouko”, a groundbreaking chypre perfume that blends fruity and spicy notes, has been hailed as one of the most complex and sophisticated works in the world of perfumery.
Guerlain's most famous creation is 'Shalimar', launched in 1925. Inspired by the grand love story of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal, Shalimar has become the epitome of oriental and sensual fragrances. With its rich notes of vanilla, incense and bergamot, Shalimar became an instant success and has remained a favorite for over a century.
Throughout its history, Guerlain has continued to innovate, while nurturing its tradition and reputation to create unique, luxurious perfumes that stand the test of time.
