Did you know this about CDs and CD players?

This year (2022) the CD turns 40 years old. The first record left the Philips factory in 1982, but it would be a few years before the first-class sound of CDs took the world by storm. One thing was certain: the scratches and noise from the often dusty and scratchy surfaces of vinyl were a thing of the past, and by 1988, CD sales were outstripping vinyl. By 1991, more CDs were sold than cassette tapes.

But records weren't cheap back then, and CD players were even worse. According to SVT, a CD player at that time cost around SEK 15,000 translated into 2007 money values - today that sum would have been even higher.
