AA batteries for all your needs

AA batteries are one of the most common battery types today. They are found in everything from music players to digital cameras, toys and remote controls. An AA battery is the larger version of its little brother, the AAA battery. Sometimes the AA battery is also called LR06.

How does an AA battery actually work?

You may remember from school that a battery has three main parts: anode, cathode and electrolyte. The cathode is the positive pole and the anode is the negative pole. These poles are in contact with the electrolyte, which is usually some kind of solution or gel. When the battery is inserted into, for example, your remote control, the two poles are connected - this is when the battery starts to discharge. Inside the battery, the anode oxidizes, releasing positive ions and creating an excess of negative electrons. To even out this imbalance, the electrons want to get to the cathode, but because the electrolyte is in the way, it must first make its way through the remote control, which in turn provides power to it. When the electrons reach the cathode, they bind to positive ions at the positive pole. When the negative anode runs out of electrons, the battery can no longer function and is thus discharged.

Our range of AA alkaline batteries

Not all, but most of our batteries are alkaline. These batteries usually have a terminal voltage of 1.5 V and use zinc (Zn) as the anode/minus terminal and manganese dioxide (MnO2) as the cathode/plus terminal. The electrolyte consists of potassium hydroxide (KOH).

So if you're looking for an alkaline AA battery, you've come to the right place! In the range you will find products from Philips, Energizer, GP, Maxell, and more! Welcome to our store.
