Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4. Aqara G4 is a unique video doorbell that runs on AA batteries by default, but can also be connected to mains power if required. Aqara G4 is the first battery or rechargeable battery-powered video doorbell to support Apple HomeKit Secure Video. It is also compatible with a number of other services, including Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa virtual assistants. The video doorbell includes local AI intelligence, which can be used for facial recognition alerts, for example.
The video doorbell has a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution with a good 162° angle. In addition to good picture quality, other features include two-way audio, IR night vision, passive infrared detection and support for local memory card storage. The memory card is installed in the internal doorbell, so the memory card cannot be accessed via the doorbell.
Aqara The Smart Video Doorbell G4 connects to your home's 2.4 GHz wireless WiFi network. Or more precisely, the included doorbell acts as a WiFi repeater and the doorbell is connected to the home's wireless network. The doorbell and the G4 video doorbell are already paired at the factory, meaning that the devices automatically establish a wireless connection. The doorbell has a USB-C interface and comes with a USB cable. The doorbell can be powered by a 5V 1A power supply or even a battery bank if required.
The video doorbell includes a local AI technology that can be used for facial recognition. The Video Doorbell can be taught to recognise the faces of family members and notifications are based on the recognised faces (the feature can also be switched off). For motion detection, the video doorbell also includes a passive infrared sensor to improve the reliability of the detection. The G4 can also detect so-called 'unauthorised presence' or tampering with the video doorbell and will alert with a bell and an alarm if these are detected.
By default, the camera records to a separately purchased microSD memory card. By exception, the memory card is installed in the doorbell and not directly in the video doorbell itself. If the video doorbell is powered by batteries, recordings will be based on motion or face detection. If the video doorbell is powered by mains electricity, continuous 24/7 recording to a memory card can be enabled. Aqara also offers a cloud service that stores a maximum of seven (7) days of motion detection recordings (terms and pricing of the service may change at a later date). The cloud service is not mandatory, i.e. motion detection recordings can always be made on a memory card (six seconds at a time).
Smart Video Doorbell G4 offers full support for Apple HomeKit Secure Video. HomeKit Secure Video provides end-to-end encrypted video and data security. This ensures that only video doorbell users have access to the camera's video stream and recordings. You can also make rules and automations between other HomeKit devices in your home. Naturally, G4 also includes full support for Aqara's own ecosystem. If you have a Aqarahub and other sensors and accessories connected to it, the G4 video doorbell can be used as a single device to create rules. For example, if a separate motion sensor detects motion, a rule can be created that immediately activates the G4's bell (95 dB volume).
Privacy protection is also taken into account for the user, as well as for the neighbours. When using two-way audio, the user's own voice can be rendered unrecognisable. For neighbours and the environment, a maximum of three separate areas can be marked/covered by the camera image
Battery life up to 4 months. Battery life is significantly affected by operating temperature, settings, use of the video doorbell, and the number of motion detections. 4 months battery life is possible if the video doorbell is woken up at maximum. 35 days a week and makes a daily recording of six seconds. The HomeKit Secure Video feature requires the user to have a minimum 50GB iCloud+ storage subscription, and an Apple TV or HomePod speaker as a home hub. If you have more than one video doorbell or camera in the service (max. 5), you will need a 200 GB subscription. 2 GB storage subscription supports an unlimited number of cameras.
