The company's roots go back to 1972, when perfumers Jean-François Laporte and Roland de Saint-Vincent founded a perfume company. Four years later, in 1976, the business was acquired by Hubert d'Ornano, who gave it the name Sisley, inspired by the famous impressionist artist.
Under Hubert d'Ornano's leadership, the company was restructured to focus on research in phytocosmetology - a science that harnesses the power of plants for skin care. With the help of chemist Egmont Desperrois, Sisley laid the foundations for its innovative approach by incorporating essential oils and active plant extracts into its products, which became a key part of the brand's success and distinctive profile in luxury beauty.
