Already as a child, Vaiana is very adventurous and is not afraid of water. In her youth, the chief's daughter finally sets out to find the demigod and shapeshifter Maui and persuade him to return Te Fiti's once-stolen heart.
Te Fiti's heart disappeared during battle between Maui and Te Ka. Along with the heart, the magical fish hook that enables Maui to transform into all kinds of animals also disappeared. Te Ka has since spread his darkness over the world, causing plants to wither and fish to die. Only by returning Te Fiti's heart can everything be saved again.
